Geneva | 2025

In the coming days, I will be in Geneva for the third time, now to take part in the United Nations Social Forum, one of the main global spaces for dialogue on human rights, social justice, and democracy.

Representing ActionAid Brazil at this forum is always an honor and an opportunity to learn. With each new edition, I am reminded that the work for equity is built through encounters, listening, and collective action.

This year, I will have the joy of participating in two side events, both held at the Palais des Nations, which are connected by the same purpose: education as a transformative force in society.

In the morning, I will attend the panel “Transformation through Education: Financing the Promise” (“Transforming Education, Financing the Promise”), organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in partnership with ActionAid, the Tax Justice Network, and the Global Campaign for Education. The discussion will address education financing and the role of fiscal justice as a condition to ensure the right to learning in an equitable and sustainable way.

In the afternoon, I will speak at the side event “The transformative role of Human Rights Education as a frontline defence for the protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms” (“The Transformative Role of Human Rights Education as a Frontline Defense for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms”). The session will discuss how human rights education can strengthen democracy and promote equity, inclusion, and active citizenship.

I will have the opportunity to share experiences from Brazil and from ActionAid, especially from the SETA Project, which has shown how education can be anti-racist, feminist, and community-based, and therefore deeply transformative.

I carry with me a feeling of gratitude for representing so many people and organizations committed to building a fairer future. I believe that education is, always, an act of hope and a commitment to humanity.
